Good Birds and Great Company: Our Post-Thanksgiving Family Field Trip

The days after Thanksgiving often means leftovers and shopping, but for the Kitsap Audubon Society (KAS), it meant getting out to enjoy the crisp, beautiful fall air for our latest Family-Friendly Field Trip in Poulsbo!

While the "family" demographic was light this time around—we missed seeing our KAS kids and parents!—the spirit of the day was absolutely vibrant. We had a wonderful turnout of dedicated birdwatchers and enthusiasts, and what a perfect day for it. The weather was stunning, offering that gorgeous mix of clear skies and brilliant fall colors that only Poulsbo can deliver.

🦃 The Flock That Feeds Together

Birding, at its core, is a solitary pursuit, but joining a field trip transforms it into a communal joy. There is something truly special about sharing a glimpse of a rare species or trying to ID those challenging species together. For many of us, coming out to these trips is about more than just checking birds off a list; it’s about connection.

And that connection runs deep. When you spend enough time scanning the horizon and sharing binoculars with your fellow KAS members, the group starts to feel less like an organization and more like a family. The camaraderie, the shared passion, and the mutual respect for the natural world make every trip a comforting, familiar experience.

✨ Fantastic Birding and A Special Thank You

The birding itself was fantastic! We had a great time observing the activity in the Poulsbo area. Our focus was sharp, and the sightings were plentiful, providing a perfect opportunity to enjoy the post-holiday tranquility of our local habitats.

We want to extend a huge, heartfelt thank you to Kevin Eyer and his entire family for their continued, generous support of these family-focused events and all KAS initiatives. Their dedication to the Kitsap Audubon mission helps keep these valuable community opportunities running, and we are incredibly grateful for their commitment.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Let's Get Families Out Birding!

Our goal remains strong: we want to regularly see more families out enjoying the fun of birding with us. These trips are designed to be an accessible, fun introduction for all ages to the wonders of local wildlife.

Keep an eye on the KAS calendar! We hope to see your whole family—kids, parents, and grandparents—on our next field outing, sharing in the joy of discovery and growing our wonderful KAS family.
